Pearl & Malcolm

Pearl and Malcolm have always enjoyed travelling to other parts of the World, and when this was done, decided that setting up a new purpose built B & B would provide ample opportunities to meet fellow travelers from other places.

Pearl (originally from Wales) enjoys needlecraft, collecting genuine antiques and animals.

In past lives she has worked with disabled adults, owned and operated a horse stud successfully breeding thoroughbreds for racing, and enjoyed many management roles in private enterprise.

Pearl served her apprenticeship in B&B with her parents, who operated a traditional B&B in Wales, and when Pearl was a young girl, she greeted guests, waited tables etc.

Malcolm has been in the building industry most of his lifetime, with varying job roles, starting with an apprenticeship, then builder, and lastly to building control.

His other interests are music, architecture, sports cars, travel and chess, but most of all, red wine and soft cheeses. He has quite a cellar to choose from, and he believes that wine is to be drunk, not stored away until it is of no earthly use. I am sure he would be pleased to show you his cellar.

Together, Pearl and Malcolm have created an accommodation and gourmet dining experience that is widely acknowledged as a leader in service and standards within the industry.

Since opening their uniquely designed Country Retreat in 2001, they have gained accreditation to the "Better Business Council of Victoria" and were finalists in the Federation Health Gippsland Business Awards 2002 and received the Encouragement Award for New Business 2002 presented by the Lakes and Wilderness Association.

In 2004 Chestnut Hill Country Retreat were recognised as industry leaders when awarded the 2004 Gippsland Business Award for Accommodation.
